Sonal has studied architecture at Center for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) in Ahmedabad and his Masters Program in Architectural Design at Southern California IStudied architecture at Center for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) in Ahmedabad and her Masters Program at the Southern California Institute of Architecture, Los Angeles (SCI-Arc). She has worked with Fumihiko Maki in Tokyo and Jerde Partnership in Los Angeles. She has also traveled extensively in Japan for her undergraduate thesis titled “Tradition In Japanese Architecture and its influences on contemporary Architects- The Work of Fumihiko Maki”. Has worked with Ratan Batliboi and Associates in Bombay prior to her Masters Education on projects in Bombay and Delhi. Has also worked with Jayant Dharap, a landscape architect in Pune. She is the Associate Member of the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) and a member of the Indian Institute of Interior Designers (IIID) and teaches as visiting faculty at the Academy of Architecture in Mumbai. Set up OPOLIS in January 2001.

He has worked a year with world renowned architect, Fumihiko Maki, in Tokyo Japan for a period of one year. At this time he was also an ambassador for the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) for which he was the only architect selected from India for the prestigious Bunka Cho Scholarship awarded by the Japanese government.Before this has worked with Rahul Mehrotra Associates for a period of two years on various architectural and interior projects in Bombay and Ahmedabad. Has also worked in Zurich as an exchange student and traveled extensively in Europe. Been an Associate ArchitectinAvinash Gore and Associates, an architectural firm doing projects in Bombay. Set up OPOLIS in January 2001. At present is Director Lecture Series of the Urban Design Research Institute (UDRI) in Mumbai and has been on the Executive Committee of UDRI for the past two years. He is a Associate member of the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) and a visiting juror at the KRVIA School of Architecture in Juhu, Mumbai. More recently part of the award winning Indian team that won international acclaim at the International Urban Design Competition for the Design of Sustainable Cities hosted by Japan at the World Gas conference in June 2003.
